Part 3 of "Less of self and more for others"

How can we change the world we live in?
Sometimes I think about how it's the little things that can impact our world.

While drying off from an evening swim with my family, I couldn't help but to notice my son. He was making his way slowly back over to the pool, as if we weren't watching. As I'm keeping a close eye on the little guy, I watched him stop, look up, and give the biggest smile to the gentleman passing by. This is where my heart sunk. The gentleman passed my smiling son, without even giving him a glance.

I know, I know, it sounds as though I'm a mother screaming out "Why didn't you smile back at my son!!!"

But, that's not my point.

At what point do we as adults, loose our child-like hearts? When did we stop smiling at people that pass us by. It has turned into a social norm, where YOU keep to yourself and I'LL keep to mine. Meaning, you do your thing and I'll do mine!

As long as I live, I will vow to keep cheering my son on! When he smiles at strangers and they do not smile back, I want to tell him to keep doing it! I don't want him to grow up thinking he needs to form to this world. I want him to forever have a child-like heart.

I want all of us to have a child-like heart. Today, your challenge is to begin smiling. Sounds pretty simple? A simple smile can change the world we live in, after all, it's about "less of self and more for others. "

This happened to my five year old recently, I can understand 100% how you are feeling. It's disheartening to see that even though it's effortless to give a small child one simple smile they can just brush them off and continue along their way, and it's acceptable! So sad, really...

Great thoughts Kara. I look forward to Thursday's! Just think how things would be if we all did what we know we should do. You showed restraint when that man ignored that precious smile. I think I might have had to get his attention. I used to have a placque that said, "If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours." Carson must have read that somewhere!

I had a placque in my house once that said, "If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours". Carson must have known about that quote!
